Antisemitic speech and rhetoric is not new to me.
In my view, lack of antisemitism is a historical anomaly.
The lack of overt antisemitism in this goldene medina of Australia 1950-2023 was beautiful but anomalous.
(Ihave lived here for a mere 20 years)
What is not anomalous is the evident and repeated history of Jewish resilience since forever.
Jews may have left judaism. Jews may have been marginalized. Jews may have been murdered.
But Judaism and Jews have endured.
We have a history of demonstrated resilience
we have a history of trauma, for sure.
But we have a history of standing up, after punch after punch, and resuming.
So lets never forget that, please, my fellow Jews.
Australian Jewish society has been a uniquely post-Holocaust Jewish society. As a culture, it has resilience as its most noticeable characteristic.
Is this the end of us here? Never.
Is this something we will forget? Never. Ever.
Is this something we will recover from? Without a doubt.
Let us take care of each other. As we always have.
