Should we fear Islam?

It is time to ask the Muslim community in Australia where it stands in relation to such atrocities as occurred at Bondi Beach.

If it expresses anything other than utter condemnation, or if it chooses to remain silent (and we know the consequences of silence!), then we need to ask if a religion that cannot completely reject the Jihadist death cult that speaks and acts in its name belongs in Australia or, indeed, in today’s world.

This is not an expression of Islamophobia because a phobia is not just a fear, but an irrational fear. Can “mainstream Islam” – whatever and whoever that means precisely – please reassure us that fear of Islam is, indeed, irrational?

Editor’s note: Many Muslim organisations have responded with sympathy and condemnation of the attack. See  Messages of support as world reels from Bondi shooting
