Imam Hassan Centre
The Imam Hassan Centre stands in firm support with the Jewish community across Australia. Words fail to describe the horror inflicted on a people of faith who were simply celebrating Hanukkah.
Our focus now is on the innocent victims who have lost their lives and the injured and their families. We pray for the victims affected by this gruesome tragedy and to strengthen the patients in their hearts. At times like this, it is easy to lose hope and doubt humanity when people of faith come under attack in such a devastating manner, it shows us how low humanity can fall. At the same time, it never ceases to amaze us how far humanity can rise. Scenes of bystanders helping the injured and heroes disarming with gunmen fill hearts with immense hope. Australia must cling to these stars and ensure the light overcomes the darkness.
“After all, it is only in the darkest nights that stars shine more brightly”- Imam Ali Ibn Abu Talib.
United as a community, we can overcome catastrophes. Whenever they happen, divided, we become barbaric ourselves, the innocent lives lost and the injured should be a reminder for us to unite against hate.
We urge the Australian Prime Minister to continue to promote unity and friendship and to take a stand against hatred and division. This responsibility lies with all of us, be it politicians, media or Australians at large. This is the time. This is the moment, and these are Australian values to the Jewish community, we hold you in our thoughts and prayers.
