When I was young I was an ardent Labor votet. As I matured I becam a I ‘swinging voter’ recognising both good and bad in each party and voting in accordance with the state of the parties, their leaders, and what I see best for the country at the time.
I am Australian I am Jewish and Israel always holds an important place not only because it is my country of birth and because I have lots of family and friends there but also because I am a zionist and I believe in the right of Israel to exist as a Jewish State and in the right of the Jewish people to have their spiritual and physical centre in the land of their ancestors. I also know that the future of the Jewish people is tied up with Israel. Wherever we Jews live, we can live freely thanks to Israel’s existence. Equally, Israel needs us to stand behind it and support it (and yes at times it may mean being critical but always supportive). I will never vote for an Australian Government that viciously abandons Israel as this government has. Nor will I vote for a government who so callously abandonded Australia’s Jewery ( and therefore personally abandoned me), and did not – and still does not- offer us/ me the protection we/I deserve to have as equal Australian citizens… Therefore, no, I shall not vote Labor this election, doing so will mean self betrayal, it also means allowing Australia to move in a direction that sadly makes it no longer the ‘lucky country’…
