Dean Kaplan, 35, faced a Sydney court on Wednesday on two counts of possessing child pornography material, one count of accessing it and another of uploading child pornography.
“A massive thank you to RabbiWolff ThecentralSynagogue, Rabbi Mendel Kastel, Rabbi Moss etc for speaking out publicly about [child sexual abuse] and being a light to our Community,” Kaplan posted on his Facebook page in February 2015.
“All of the Sydney Jewish Community, indeed every decent human being on this planet is against the perpetrators of such horrific crimes and in support of the victims. G-D bless and let's move forward with our eyes and hearts open!”
A tip-off from the United States National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children about a Sydneysider allegedly uploading images of child abuse led the Australian Federal Police to Mr Kaplan's Kensington apartment last month, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.
In a letter to students dated June 28, Emanuel School said: "Mr Kaplan has been working at Emanuel as a fitness instructor for 8 hours a week since 2016 and has been immediately stood down from his duties.
“The School is not privy to the full details of the charges, but the Australian Federal Police have assured us that the charges do not involve any current or former Emanuel students.
“There is no suggestion that any inappropriate activity occurred on School grounds or at School events.”
The Jewish Independent understands the matter is still before the courts. The case is continuing.
