If Obama does not act decisively now to promote a two-state solution, his final days in the Oval Office could also be the final days of Abbas and Fatah. A collapse of the PA would lead to a collapse of the Palestinian legal system and essential services. Poverty and crime rates would skyrocket, and dozens of militias would turn the West Bank into fiefdoms ruled by armed gangs.
