On 28 September, 40 rabbis and nine rabbinic organisations wrote to House minority leader Nancy Pelosi, urging her to allow a vote on a bill that would authorise sanctions against members of Bashar al-Assad’s government and foreign supporters of his regime, and also allow the US to provide evidence in future Syria-related war crimes trials. ‘Our teacher Elie Wiesel taught us that wherever there is suffering, that is the centre of the world.’
