Critics of the 514 page book say it does not adequately address shared citizenship in a Jewish and democratic state, downplaying key issues such as the divide between Ashkenazi and Sephardi Jews and providing minimal coverage of Arab Israelis, but rather places an emphasis on Jewish nationalism above all, including ‘God’s promise’ to the Jewish people as a justification for the establishment of the State.
