The Jewish Independent has won Multicultural NSW’s 2025 Best Report in Multicultural Media.
Ruby Kraner-Tucci accepted the award for Generation Change, a series profiling young Australian Jews who are making a positive impact in their local communities.
The series, which launched in March 2024, involves interviews with young leaders about a variety of subjects. These include the burden of being a young carer, the limited media freedom within Australia’s criminal justice system, the overlooked opportunity for workplace disability inclusion, and the journey to accepting an LGBTQI+ and Orthodox Jewish identity.

The award recognises excellence in journalism for multicultural media. It was presented at The NSW Premier’s Harmony Dinner in Sydney last night to a large crowd that included ministers, dignitaries, award recipients and multicultural organisations.
The latest interview in the winning series, released today, is with Jaimee Krawitz, the 27-year-old founder of Hide N Seek, a not-for-profit educating people about eating disorders.

Assistant editor and journalist Kraner-Tucci said Generation Change perfectly reflects the mission of TJI to present a nuanced view of issues affecting Australia’s Jewish community.
"Our commitment to showcasing diverse perspectives is evident in Generation Change, where we highlight topics often considered taboo in our community," she said.
"Our interviewees reflect the diversity of Australia’s Jewish community. I want to challenge the common misconception that this is a homogenous cultural group."
This is the third time The Jewish Independent has been awarded a NSW Premier’s Multicultural Community Medal, previously known as the NSW Premier's Multicultural Communications Awards.
In 2023, TJI won the award for Best Audio-Visual Report for the video series From Their Perspective: Palestinian Citizens of Israel, produced by Sharon Offenberger. The previous year, it took out the same award for Covid Courage Stories, produced by Benjamin Strum.
