$604.2M Federal Fund to Fight Antisemitism in Australia

The Federal Government has announced it will provide $604.2 million over five years to combat the influences of antisemitism, violent extremism and hate in Australia.

A third of the funding will go to a package of anti-extremism measures, including countering terrorism threats online, preventing youth radicalisation, and public awareness and social cohesion campaigns. It will include:

$80 million over two years to enhance capabilities to counter terrorism threats online and prevent violent extremism and youth radicalisation. They key mechanism will be the $74 million Counter Terrorism Centre, announced last week.
$32.6 million in the next year for a public awareness campaign to strengthen national security and social cohesion.
$13.6 million over five years to implement changes to migration laws, enabling the government to refuse or cancel visas on the grounds of hate-motivated conduct and or offences relating to the spread of hatred and extremism.
$20 million over four years to Together for Humanity to run programs to counter antisemitism and racism.
$10 million over two years for teacher training and support for the Monash Initiative for Rapid Research into Antisemitism.

Another third of the funding is specifically focused on supporting those injured in the attack, families of victims, and affected communities. These funds include:

$102.0 million over four years for enhanced security for the Jewish community.
$68.8 million over four years from 2025-26 to the Australian Federal Police for the National Security Investigations teams to support community security.
$42.9 million over two years from 2025-26 for mental health supports.
$4.0 million in 2025-26 to Jewish House and JewishCare to support Bondi victims and their families.
Smaller amounts for security at youth group camps, business recovery for Lewis’ Continental Kitchen in Bondi, the Bondi Surf Bathers Life Saving Club and the North Bondi Surf Life Saving Club.
