German man arrested over Israel rally ramraid plan; Pro-Palestinians in US assault man helping a Jewish couple; death threats chanted in Milan.

Germany’s antisemitism commissioner has condemned the country’s recent increase in anti-Jewish violence, warning that it risks transporting the country back to its “most horrific times”.

In an interview with the Guardian, however, Felix Klein said he was also worried about an erosion of basic rights as officials sought to crack down on expressions of support for the Palestinian people.

Local media identify known jihadist Tarik S. as suspect detained in Essen, where authorities swooped in on him after being tipped off by a foreign intelligence service.

Milan’s Jews on high alert after death threats written in nightclub and chanted at pro-Palestinian rally. Some held signs with the image of Anne Frank wearing a keffiyeh, or Arabic scarf, at a large rally.

US Rabbi Alissa Wise is enraged as she scrolls through social media, where her feed is littered with videos of dead Palestinian children, parents holding their lifeless bodies with screams caught in their throats and eyes sunken with grief.

Wise and other Jewish American peace activists are mobilising to save Gazans with their calls for an urgent ceasefire – even when doing so puts them at odds with some groups within their own community, including the Anti-Defamation League, who have questioned their morals and even accused them of being anti-Israel.
