Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu indicated his willingness to adopt parts of the Arab Peace Initiative but conveniently ignored the essential parts. There can be no two-state solution process without a settlement freeze and a readiness to negotiate on the basis of the 1967 lines with mutual land swaps and East Jerusalem as a Palestinian capital. Netanyahu and Liberman also insist on recognition of Israel as a Jewish state, well knowing that no Palestinian leader will accept what was never asked of either Egypt or Jordan. The Palestinians and the Arab countries will not engage anymore in negotiations for the sake of negotiations and no one in Brussels and the main EU capitals believes that Netanyahu, now with Liberman at his flank, is actively interested in a two-state solution.
