AS CEO OF the dynamic youth organisation, Stand Up, Gary Samowitz is part of a new generation of Australian Jewish leaders dedicated to making positive social change – inside and outside their community.
Born and raised in Johannesburg, the product of a traditional Jewish family and the Zionist youth movement, Habonim Dror, Gary’s life could have followed a predictable path. But memories of a racist and unjust apartheid South Africa together with unlikely friendships with Arab and Palestinian students at university, set him onto a different and bolder path.
