Andrew was born in Hungary and moved to Australia after the anti-Stalinist Revolution of 1956. Andrew's father has been active both the Hungarian Social Democratic Party and the Hungarian Trade Union movement and was forced to escape to Australia as a refugee. Andrew joined the Labor Party when he was 17 years old. His main reason for joining was his opposition to the Vietnam War conscription.
Andrew worked as a journalist, public servant, union official and political adviser. He had worked for the ACTU, Deputy Prime Minister Brian Howe, the Liquor Hospitality and Miscellaneous Workers Union (now United Voice) and the Australians Worker's Union. Andrew has been a member of the Willoughby, Gladesville, Petersham and Ku-Ring-Gai Branches; and the Bentleigh Branch in Victoria. Andrew was also involved in young Labor in the 1970s.
Andrew was an active member of the Jewish community serving for many years on the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies, He was also running the Australian arm of LabourStart, the first and still only, international union online news and campaign network. Andrew was awarded life member membership of the Australian Labor Party (NSW Branch) at the 2012 Annual Conference.
Andrew was a staunch unionist and will be missed by the labour movement
