Three analysis and comment pieces by Isabelle Oderberg in The Jewish Independent have been selected as finalists in the Walkley Awards.
The nominated articles are:
- 'Australian values’ – an immigration test with no answer, which explores the implications of Dan Goldberg's documentary The Hunt for the Last Nazis for contemporary immigration policy
- The new McCarthyism: Anti-Zionist witch hunts, which draws a parallel between treatment of contemporary Zionists and the treatment of suspected communists in the United States in the 1950s
- Randa Abdel-Fattah is a perverse poster child for free speech, which argues that Abdel-Fattah's positions are abhorrent and hypocritical, but Adelaide Writers' Week should still not have cancelled her.
The group of articles is one of three finalists in the Commentary, Analysis, Opinion and Critique category of the Walkley Awards.
The other two finalists are also Jewish writers and, at least partly, on issues of Jewish interest. David Leser has been selected for articles on the Bondi massacre and its aftermath published in The Age/The Sydney Morning Herald; Kylie Moore-Gilbert is a finalist for a column on antisemitism, together with pieces on AI and higher education and on freebirth, also published in The Age/The Sydney Morning Herald.
The SBS team that made The Hunt for the Last Nazis – Dan Goldberg, Craig Graham, Mark Middis, David Roach – is a finalist in the Documentary category.
ABC Investigations' Sean Rubinsztein-Dunlop, Olivia Caisley and Michael Workman, are finalists for the Scoop of the Year for their investigation: Bondi: What ASIO knew.
