The number of Israeli settlers living in the West Bank has soared over the past five years. Settler leader says the new population figures put to rest the internationally backed idea of a two-state solution between Israel and the Palestinians.

Pessimists about the two-state solution point to the lack of trust between the parties and the supposed irreversibility of the settlement enterprise, with some 590,000 people now living beyond the former Green Line. The authors, co-chairs of Blue White Future, argue that while the obstacles are formidable, they are not insurmountable.
