Covid Courage: Award-winning videos

Covid Courage: Stories of Sydney Jewry was named Best Audio/Visual Report in the Multicultural NSW Media Awards.

The Jewish Independent has won Multicultural NSW’s Award for the Best Audio/Visual Report in 2022.

The award was given for Covid Courage: Stories of Sydney Jewry, a three-part documentary series chronicling the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on everyday lives.

Commissioned by The Jewish Independent, and written and directed by Sydney filmmaker Benjamin Strum, the series provides a compelling insight into the ordinary and extraordinary ways that Sydney Jewish people have responded to life in lockdown.

Pandemic Pen Pal charts an unlikely friendship between ageing, isolated Holocaust survivor George and bar mitzvah-aged student David, brought together as pen pals in the midst of a lockdown.

Frontline Frum tells the inspiring story of Orthodox Rabbi Dovid Slavin, who leads a team of volunteers at Our Big Kitchen, preparing thousands of meals each day for Sydney’s homeless and hungry.

Goddess Vengeance captures a brave journey of self-discovery by a young woman, Hanna, who must confront loneliness and uncertainty wrought by the pandemic. 

The Jewish Independent publisher Uri Windt said he was delighted that the high-quality work of The Jewish Independent had been recognised by Multicultural NSW.
