Rose Bay Secondary College named as public school at centre of antisemitic messaging.
Rose Bay Secondary College principal Melinda Bright has written to parents asking them to encourage their children to report racist or antisemitic behaviour.
The letter, sent yesterday, follows the revelation of antisemitic incidents at the Sydney public school.
A Jewish student at Rose Bay was told by another student that he would go back in time and become Hitler to “hunt down his family and stop the bloodline”.
The principal said from next year, Year 10 students will visit the Sydney Jewish Museum when studying the unit of work on WWII, as part of the History Curriculum.
Exclusive boys’ private school Cranbrook is also dealing with several instances of antisemitic bullying, including a video of a boy performing a Nazi salute in full uniform while at school and bullies who regularly referred to Jewish students as “Jew” rather than by name.
Both schools have been the subject of complaints to the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies over sustained antisemitic bullying, including Nazi salutes.
Separately, a mother at another Sydney private school phoned the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies to report that her son witnessed a Jewish boy being stuffed into a locker and sprayed with deodorant to simulate a Nazi gas chamber, while other students laughed and filmed the incident. She did not name the school, but said it occurred earlier this year and she believed the school was aware of it.
